Homa Pura

Sree Narayana Guru had already established a parnasala in Sivagiri, the center of his activities. They used to perform homam there every morning. Once, when the monks of the Arya Samaj came there and asked the Guru for permission to perform homam as part of their daily ritual, the Guru gave permission and gave a piece of paper to the Swamis of the Samaj who came to see the Guru in the morning on the day the homam was to be performed. On it, the Swamis of the Samaj had written a mantra called Homa Mantra. Reading it, the Swamis of the Samaj felt great talent in it and had great respect for the Guru and they performed homam there by chanting that mantra. Since then, every morning in the Sivagiri Math, the Homa Mantra created by Sree Narayana Guru is performed there by chanting Shanthi Havanam. Even after the Guru established the Advaita Ashram, the homam was performed in the Guru Mandir of the ashram that was there. Later, Sri Sivaswaroopananda Swami, who had been serving as the secretary of the ashram for a long time, built a new Homapura at the eastern end of the ashram exclusively for the purpose of conducting Homa. Since its construction, this Homapura has not only been used for conducting Homa every morning as part of the daily rituals of the ashram, but also various puja rituals are performed in this Homapura for the well-being of the devotees and their peace of mind.
